Mookaite is a type of jasper, which is a microcrystalline variety of quartz. It is found in only one location in the world, in Western Australia. Mookaite is formed from the fossilized remains of radiolaria, which are microscopic aquatic organisms. The radiolaria skeletons are made of silica, which is the same material that makes up quartz. Over millions of years, the radiolaria skeletons were buried and compacted, forming a sedimentary rock called mookaite.

Mookaite is typically a reddish-brown color, but it can also be found in shades of yellow, green, and purple. It is often mottled or banded with different colors. Mookaite is a relatively hard stone, with a Mohs hardness of 6-7. It is also quite brittle, so it can break easily if dropped.

Mookaite is used in a variety of jewelry and other decorative items. It is also used in some metaphysical practices, as it is thought to have grounding and healing properties.
